Elizabeth Laird truly captures the atmosphere, culture and
inequalities of Dubai in this moving children’s fiction book about camel
riders. As so often is the case – the glorified images of camel
racing hide the true conditions the child jockeys have to live in. You are immediately absorbed by the
plight of the children in this book.
Laird tackles emotive issues such as child slavery and the exploitation
of these helpless children. Whilst
some characters may be saved you can appreciate the many that do not see the
light at the end of the tunnel.
